World of WearableArt (WOW®)

Described as a theatrical extravaganza of art, theatre, performance, dance, lighting, music and humour, the WOW® Awards embraces all aspects of contemporary performance art. Each entry selected for the Awards is individually choreographed to present it to its best advantage on stage.

The WOW® Awards have been embraced by designers and audiences throughout the world, growing from an audience of 200 in Nelson in 1987, to audiences of nearly 30,000 in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city, in 2005. Each year, the best garments are selected from approximately 300 entries from around the globe. They are then choreographed into a theatrical production spanning seven themed sections. This unique performance involves a cast of about 400, including models, performers and dancers.

For the audience, WOW® signifies a chance to escape, to enter a world of fantasy where for two hours the mind is enraptured by a visual, audio and emotional feast. You may laugh and cry, sing along, or boogie in your seat. Once inside WOW®, there are no boundaries - only the enjoyment of the moment.

Wellington
Wellington is a vibrant and compact city tucked between a stunning harbour and wooded hills. The city is only two kilometres in length making it very walkable - everything is right at your fingertips.

The World of WearableArt Awards Show takes place in The Events Centre, situated right on Wellington’s waterfront - a stones throw away from the sheer retail therapy of the Lambton Quarter, the urban funk of the Cuba Quarter and the entertainment-packed Courtenay Quarter.  If you stay in the city, you will be situated right in the middle of all the WOW festivities. You will have a world of wonderful shopping at your feet as well as great places to go to for coffee, lunch, brunch and then on to dinner and cocktails.
