Craig Crestani, our Jasons Wellington Rep, shares five of the great things that make Wellington extra special…
"Whether it’s coffee, beer, sport or culture that gets you going, I reckon Wellington is the home of great experiences."
COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE – Wellington is the Southern Hemisphere’s home of coffee. Try Jimmy’s for a business rendez-vous, and of course any Mojo cafe. On the way to the airport, we have Chocolate Fish and Polo, where you just may catch a celeb from Wellywood. I especially like Havana cause it’s easy to grab a quick takeaway on the way back to the office, and my personal favourite is Zuleika – a little gem near home in Island Bay.
BEER BEER BEER – Courtenay Place has bars for Africa! What a great place to meet with friends for a drink. Try The Tasting Room for a cold Monteiths and The Malthouse to relax in the lounge chairs as you sip New Zealand craft beers; Hummingbird for a quiet drink with the wife or try Molly Mallones later on for an Irish hoe down. On a sunny day, head to the waterfront to relax at Dockside or Shed 5, or visit Wellington’s best drinking sun trap at St John's Bar.
CULTURE CULTURE CULTURE – This city is brimming with it, and Te Papa is just the beginning. See the Treaty of Waitangi at Archives New Zealand, watch an old classic at The Film Archive, a musical at St James or the Opera House, or catch a play at one of our theatres. We also have some great galleries and historic buildings.
SPORT SPORT SPORT – We are quickly establishing ourselves as the ‘Melbourne’ of New Zealand – we support our sport! Most weekends are spent at the stadium, on a diet of rugby, football and cricket, but there is much more! We have national teams in both netball and basketball, as well as our playgrounds swamped by children enjoying the space and freedom our city has to offer.
WALK WALK WALK – The city looks stunning from above, so climb high and enjoy it. Head to the lookout on Mt Victoria, or go bush and tackle Mt Kau Kau. For something less intense, take the Cable Car up to the Botanic gardens for amazing city views, or take a stroll beside the seaside at Oriental Bay. For family groups, the Zoo and ZEALANDIA are a must.
