- Culture Capital – Any time of the year, Wellington will put on a show, so get busy exploring the cultural highlights. The national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa, is a must-do, acclaimed worldwide for its innovative approach, or check out the Museum of Wellington at Queen’s Wharf for more about the city’s history. When evening falls, the busy Courtenay precinct is packed with restaurants , bars, cafes and theatres.
- Wellington Adventure & Recreation – Pack your walking shoes because most of the capital can easily be explored on foot. The Thorndon Heritage Trail showcases the colonial atmosphere and heritage buildings of Wellington’s oldest suburb or catch the cable car up to the Botanic Garden and enjoy a stroll through the rose gardens. There are breath taking views of the city and harbour, or you can take to the skies by helicopter for a bird’s-eye view. There are tours of Parliament buildings and the Lord of the Rings movie locations, or head down to Wellington’s waterfront and catch the ferry across the harbour to enjoy the beachside cafes at fashionable Days Bay and Eastbourne. Nature enthusiasts can join an animal encounter at the Wellington Zoo, see endangered native birds and wildlife at ZEALANDIA sanctuary, or take a Seal Coast safari along the wild southern coast to see the seals and fabulous views.
