Overview

The historical town of Wanganui is located close to the mouth of the Whanganui River. During the early days of European settlement, Wanganui was an important trading town. Prominent heritage buildings in the city include the Royal Wanganui Opera House, The Museum and the Sarjeant Art Gallery.

Much of the town is on the river's northwest bank. The original homestead (also set up in the form of a huge doll's house in the Museum) which houses management of the motel was built in 1839 but now has had many additions and changes made to it over the years. Close to the south-east end of the City Bridge is one of Wanganui's more unusual features an elevator tunnel leading to a monument on the top of Durie Hill.

The motel is situated on the main arterial route linking State Highways 3 and 4 overlooking the Whanganui River. It has 12 studio and family suites spaciously located throughout 2 acres of parkland with mature native and exotic trees with a protected Magnolia Tree and birds.
