Waipukurau is a thriving farming and light industrial centre in southern Hawke's Bay.
The town of Waipukurau began in the early 1850s on the site of a Maori village — some of the region's early settlers were involved in a 'model village' project, an aspect that is mirrored in the town's excellent layout today.
