- Waiheke is the second largest island in the Hauraki Gulf. (It comes in behind Great Barrier Island when it comes to size) Waiheke's stony soil and sunny climate means it's home to over 30 boutique vineyards.
- Set the alarm for Saturday morning and join the locals at the Ostend War Memorial Hall for the Ostend Market. Starting at 7.30am, you can grab a great coffee as well as fresh produce and other Waiheke made goodies.
- At the eastern end of the island is Stony Batter. Built in 1942 to protect Auckland from a Japanese invasion, it has three 23 metre guns, a complex of
underground magazine rooms, engine rooms and gun stores all connected by a kilometre or so of tunnels. Go exploring - just remember to bring a torch!
