"@Helene Whelan" This was given a review of 5 stars (Excellent)

Obviously you are a very judgemental person, and they are right. It is not Auckland. Theres 5 start luxury City style, and then theres 5 star luxury country style, and that is what you got. If I was an employee or local of Te Kaha, I probably would of looked at you the same way, because anyone who drinks Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir or Merlot, are sure be a snobby b****! - Hence the reason they dont sell it :)

    On a more positive note;

Te Kaha Resort may not have the best looking employees or locals :) But they are fun, inviting, and if you get to know them on a drunken level, they're sure to invite you to the local "after party" !!! The stay I had at the resort was one to never forget!

I have nothing but good things to say about this small country "blink and you'll miss it" coastal......................town i suppose! :)

    Highly recommended for all.

"Great venue for business." This was given a review of 3 stars (Average)

It can be difficult finding suitable venues for business conferences in remote communities like this one.

We were very fortunate to hold our annual general meeting at the Te Kaha Beach Resort & were pleasantly surprised by the facilities it offered.

With more than 50 delegats in attendance, from across the Bay of Plenty region, the Resort staff did a fantastic job catering to us all. The conference room is top notch & the views out to sea are spectacular.

The conference was a great success & we hope to hold future events here.

    Much appreciated.

"Paradise for families" This was given a review of 4 stars (Good)

    Hi there.

Just thought I'd drop in to say that my family & I had a wonderful stay at the resort. (Not sure what happened for the other reviewers).

My children spent most of their time exploring the beachs and the wonders of the rock pools at low tide. They collected lovely pieces of brushed glass that had washed up on shore.

The restaurant meals were delicious with something for everyone. Really enjoyed the coffee & caramel layer cakes.

Our rooms had breathtaking views of the ocean and we slept with the sliding door open, listening to the waves all night.

We really enjoyed our stay & were very grateful for the hospitality we received. Definately planning a return trip over summer when it's warm enough to swim.

"Definitely not luxury!" This was given a review of 1 star (Poor)

As with Helen's review our stay was appalling. The pool was disgusting, staff were lax and amenities were substandard. Way overpriced and totally NOT worth the trip!

"Appalling! NOT 5 Star!" This was given a review of 1 star (Poor)

After travelling for 2 and a half hours to get to this "luxury" accommodation our first impressions were "nice spot, nice looking exterior". That's where the positives ended.

STAFF: Unprofessional. Sad saps who felt sorry for themselves (because of the receivership situation) and didn't bother to provide any customer service. The only one worth their salt was the young man at the bar - he was the only one dressed professionally. That said, my mother had to write out her own order for the Restaurant food because no-one was available to take it! When we were shown to our room the staff arrived with a huge trolley and started counting out the cutlery and plates to make sure it was all there. Possible something that should be done prior to people arriving?

POOL: Filled with green algae and unavailable for the long weekend! This was part of the reason we chose the place. Surely you would advise this on your website!

SPA: After looking at the pool there was no way I was going near the spa.

RESTAURANT: Not what is represented on the website. Bland. The only thing going for it is the view - apart from that it resembles your typical local hotel/pub eatery. 4 items available on the menu. No where near the "luxury" standard of food represented on the website.

BAR: Walked in and received a frosty reception from the locals. Felt like we were intruding. Stunk of cigarette smoke, was dirty and didn't have Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir or Merlot! In fact, they hardly had any wine. Once again, not the "luxury" portrayed on the website.

ROOMS: OK. Oven didn't work properly but the bed was OK. Washing machine and dryer were squeezed in beside the loo so you had to be flexible enough to reach the toilet paper behind the washing machine.

As the other review noted, the bar services the locals as well. Not a very inviting atmosphere.

All in all this was a complete waste of time and money. It is a complete misrepresentation for the website to be portraying some sort of luxury accommodation. The exterior seems to pull it off but then you walk in and find the Clampets running it.

I sent feedback to the hotel and was told "we're not Auckland you know" and that I was "obviously a very judgemental person".

Stay in Ohope or Whakatane - much more bang for your buck and a much higher standard of service for a lot less outlay.
