Taupo Summer Fun
Taupo is to the North Island what Wanaka and Queenstown are to the
South Island. It is an action and
adventure packed zone where there’s so much to do that you may not know where to start, but don’t worry – we’re here to help!
Make sure you check out our Taupo Hot Deals page!
ALL THE FUN UNDER THE SUN
Whether you’re wanting to
freefall from the skies, jump into a
bungy
experience, wander through a
thermal wonderland and explore a
geothermal cave; Taupo and its surrounds has plenty to offer. Check out these
inspiring videos for a taste of adventure.
If you’d prefer to just chill – or
soak – Taupo is also perfectly placed with
hot pools and
beautiful vistas for a spot of tranquil pampering or picnicking.

GREAT CATCH
Would this be an article about Taupo without some mention of
world-class fishing? No, but then do you also know that Taupo is home of the only
prawn park
in New Zealand? With thermally warmed waters, these ugly (but tasty)
critters can grow up to 68cm, and you can spend a day at the park trying
to catch one – stick that on your barbie and eat it (maybe with some
garlic butter)!
From a Jasons customer review: “
We fished and all caught
prawns, even my 5 yr old! And after 4 hours had to drag the kids away,
because they didn't want to leave. Full of playgrounds and activities
for the kids, my husband and I actually got some time out without the
kids pestering us.”
STAY A WHILE
With so much to take in around Lake Taupo, you might as well plan to
enjoy a few nights in this family-friendly part of New Zealand. Here's

Taupo accommodation listing, or, get a preview of your stay with these
videos of Taupo accommodation.

TAKE THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED
While many
cars and campers
may be making their way between Taupo and Gisborne or Tauranga over the summer period, why not take a tiki tour of your own
with this
route planner that meanders its way from Rotorua back to Taupo and takes in the surf beach of
Raglan and those
galaxies of glow worms at the
Waitomo Caves.
DID YOU KNOW
Lake Taupo is the crater lake of a super-
volcano that erupted in 186AD, and at 616 km
2 it is New Zealand’s largest lake, and Oceania’s largest freshwater lake. That's one cool lake.
What activities in Taupo do you want to try out? And which ones can you recommend?
