Summary says it all; food was great, and the entire stay was most enjoyable
fantastic stay, really close to everything , nice and quiet lovely presented rooms. Beautiful surroundings lovely and peaceful
This is a gem, a bit off the beaten track near Takaka, a nice town in the north of Abel Gasman. Loved the chalets we stayed in, the surroundings, and dinner at the restaurant was terrific! Well done!
This place was wonderful ... the property is well maintained. Clean, clean, and clean. Didn't have time to try the restaurant. Great accommodations. If my travels take me back i would have no problem booking the room again.
An excellent stay! Great hospitality and beautiful rooms, very private. The landscape is incredible and well worth visiting. Restaurant service was great, food was fantastic. Top notch!
Great setting, wonderfully appointed room, and our dinner was as good as Canlis Seattle. Rating is 5+++.
We stayed the night in very comfortable surroundings, WE also decided to book in the onsite restaurant and i'm glad we did the food was amazing we are already planning to go back, Highly recommend the fish dish, service in all our areas of stay was great they are very accomadating hosts and cook a fabulous cooked breakfast.
The stand-alone unit we stayed in had its own private sheltered outdoor area, the unit itself was light and bright, very spacious, comfortable and with quality fixtures and fittings.
Very comfortable lodge for our two night stay, private and quiet. Only comment would be need to update television. Enjoyed food in restaurant, particularly the fish soup which had generous portions of fish. Only improvement would be larger glass to serve wine by the glass so red wine could breathe and dish of vegetables a bit mean, but we do like our veggies. Would happily stay here again.
We only had a couple of days break from work so needed somewhere that you could do as little or as much as you wanted . Eatery on the Rock was just the place . Our first night there we had a very tasty pork loin and a salmon meal , can highly reccommend both dishes . Our unit also was calming, surrounded by trees and scrubs . Had a Sav or two on the veranda . The next day after a sleep in off to town for a wee browse around the shops and pick up a snack for our trip to Collingwood then our walk out to the spit . Just awesome the size of the sand dunes . Back to Eatery about 5ish for snacks and more Savvy . Dinner and hospitality terrific . We really enjoyed our short time away thank you to our friendly hosts we would love to come back .
We drove over from Picton and after the drive over the formidable "Takaka Hill" the welcome at "Eatery" was great. The units are very clean and spacious and Chris made us feel very welcome, down to storing some of our frozen food in the restaurant freezer. It is a lovely setting and each unit is placed to offer a private and peaceful outlook. The meal at the restaurant was great and not over the top pricewise. All in all a most pleasant stay, but a little more expensive than we had hoped but the experience did help to make a great Christmas.
Very peaceful and pleasant room. Comfortable and good value. Meal tasty home cooking.
The accommodations are set amongst the rocks with nice garden around each cabin and around the property. In addition to the facilities and the friendliness of Pat, the free WiFi makes this hotel a winner.
This is the second time we have stayed here..Once again couldn't fault anything. The accomodation just has a wonderful feel to eat and the meal at the restaurant was as usual up to its very high standard.
Great place to stay
The setting is superb and each unit is separate from the others which has to be a plus. The room itself was ideal, the hosts very helpful, and the restaurant food great. We probably would have enjoyed the setting even more if it hadn't rained most of our two days in Takaka - but that's life!
We assumed Sky TV would be available (at least the sports channel as we would have liked to have watched a certain Super 15 match on the Saturday night!), and a microwave would have been good. Just personal preferences.
All in all a great place to stay.
Lovely place. Staff and owners very helpful and friendly. The rooms were immaculately clean and beautifullly appointed.
The owners were very warm and friendly and have a fantastic restaurant. For anyone who enjoys fine Coca-Cola (they serve it in the glass bottle) which is a real treat for a Californian. Dinner was fantastic for both of us and dessert was amazing.
Our room was spacious, modern, clean, and comfortable. We really enjoyed looking at the stars in the Southern Hemisphere and even though they were fully booked it was very peaceful and quiet for a great night's sleep.
We did several great hikes in Abel Tasman and Khangurui National Parks. The restaurants downtown are also fantastic as well. Thanks to the owners for a great part of our amazing holiday in New Zealand.
My husband and I recently spent three weeks in New Zealand and stayed in a variety of B&B and Lodges. Our stay at the Eatery On the Rock was most enjoyable. We arrived late at night and our hosts greeted us with a warm welcome despite the hour. Our cottage was immaculate, cozy and very private.
The food at the restaurant was delicious as was their wine selection. Our hosts also gave us great suggestions for sites to visit, good hiking trails, etc.
We look forward to going back.
Arrived for 3 nights in January with high expectations based on other reviews. We were not disappointed. The units are clean and tidy, each has a verandah (most private) to enjoy drinks and food. Limited cooking facilities were overcome using the barbecue freely available on the property. We chose not to eat at the restaurant as we prefer to cook ourselves where we can. Wireless network is available password supplied on checkin. Staff were very friendly and more than willing to help with any enquiries. This is one choice we would make again. Thanks.
excellent - great place to stay. private and beautiful
The cabin was private and relaxing. Really enjoyed our time there. Thanks :)
We really loved our stay at the Eatery on the Rock. This was our first trip to the area. The location was perfect -- a beautiful and convenient spot within walking distance of the town of Takaka. The living space was really lovely and private. The restaurant was really nice too. We're from the US and from our perspective, it is a little pricey, but it was really worth it. It is rare that the place that you stay at becomes a part of the good memories you have of your trip, but this really was. We didn't want to leave!
Beautiful place, great room.
Very good restaurant.
This place was terrific. The rooms are very spacious, comfortable, and private. Free wireless internet. Food at the restaurant was outstanding
The garden studio accommodation at Eatery on the Rock was one of the nicest I have ever stayed in for motel prices. The garden setting was lovely - private and quiet ; the building was of environmentally friendly materials ; the cleanliness and decor were a delight.
This is a nice property with friendly people. The problem is that the place is only suitable to sleep in. There are no kitchen facilities and it is even difficult to make breakfast here. It would be much improved by bench space and washing up facilities. It is a country town and when we travel we eat breakfast in. Here it was difficult. We did really enjoy the privacy.
We provide a small work top, fresh milk, tea, coffee, toaster, kettle, glasses, plates, bowls, cups and cutlery as well as full room service for breakfast and dinner. Our rooms are also serviced daily and we do all your washing up the idea is for you to relax and enjoy the rocks cave four acres of grounds and maybe the restaurant. Chris and Pat
Beautiful natural surroundings, right on the edge of the unique township of Takaka. It is evident that this establishment has been a labor of love - we regret that we did not have time to stay here longer. It was well worth the journey to stay at this accommodation. Highly recommended. Would be particularly suited for couples looking for a romantic get-away.
The chalet was well presented and had a fresh smell and feel, we were well greated and felt quite private, unfortunately we did not dine in as we had alternative plans. Thank you
