Web had a wonderful time. The rooms were spotless and the service was excellent. The hosts were brand-new and they did a fantastic job. We were there at Easter and they even gave our daughter a wee marshmallow Easter egg. Only one recommendation, there should be a DVD player in each room, not one that is shared around guests (they are fairly cheap so no reason not to).

What a wonderful place to stay. Spotless, new ,and spacious units orverlooking the sparkling pool. Jacuzzi to warm up during winter. The hosts were amiable and pleased to help. Russell is lovely, and is well worth a stay.

We stayed for a chill at the end of a month long travel in South and North Island.We were not disappointed with what we found,it was a perfect spot at the end of much travelling. Very central to Russell and perfect as a focal point for walking , visiting the beach and for the ferry if you needed it. The accommodation was well equipped and serviced with all we needed. The landlords were very welcoming and responded to all our whims.
Recommended without reservation.
Great room on the waterfront, lots of action to watch as the world goes by, close to food and bars...lovely view.
Location - perfectly situated with restaurants, cafes and shops right next door.
Rooms - well equipped and clean and comfortable, some have outside tables with access to pool, others have private decks but less room and only chairs outside.
Hosts - Gill & Russ very friendly, helpful and aware of all guests' needs (thanks for shushing the screaming kids!)

We enjoyed a very comfortable room with a view of the harbourfront in Russell. Commodore's offers the use of bicycles and kayaks at no charge to guests.
Great location, immediately on the beach and within 100m walk of all the amenities Russell has to offer. Staff really friendly and extremely helpful. wish we could have stayed longer. Spotless room right next to pool but no sea view. Rooms at the front of the Lodge offer sea views; however having the pool directly outside our room was a bonus with a young family.
On the beautiful waterfront a Russell, we really enjoyed our stay here.
Two things I think could be improved on: there is nowhere to put moisteriseres, makeup etc in the bathroom, perhaps a small glass shelf could be installed.
There is a delay between words spoken and hearing sound from the TV. Im not sure if this is to do with the reception in Russell or the T V unit itself.
Excellent accommodation, clean, neat, tidy. Efficient owners.Ocean view room helped. Having such a base to revisit the laid back capital of NZ, if not the world, made the all too short visit the more memorable. 5 out of 5 from us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at commodores. We had a 1 bedroom poolside room. We had our baby with us and they provided a portacot for us. The room was well appointed, fresh and very clean. The linen and towels were a lovely quality. The staff friendly. It was very quiet, it was off season but as we were there for a wedding I think it was almost booked out. If we were there in the summer I would have used the pool, it looked very inviting and as the buildings surrounding it was very sheltered from any wind. Probably the best motel I have stayed at in this price range. Highly recommended.
Nicely located, tidy, quiet and complete motel in the center of Russell. The whole family, 2 adults 3 kids, enjoyed stay in family unit with all amenities that were required for a great break. The hosts were very friendly and tried to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
Arrived to find we had been given a seaview room which was lovely. The accommodation was spacious with kitchen facilities and a nice shower etc. The view over the jetty was gorgeous and we could sit out on the terrace and watch the world go by.
All staff were friendly and very informative. There were bikes and kayaks to use free of charge which was great. There was also guest laundry which, as we had just arrived in NZ we didn't need to use.
Russell was a great place to stay (much nicer than Pahia) and I would definitely recommend the Commodore's Lodge for accommodation. Thanks for a great stay and start to a wonderful holiday.
Great location, friendly and informative proprietors, spacious accommodation, good value for the rate paid.
We had the best time staying with you. You could not have done more for us and we all had such a lovely time and will definately be back. The canoes were a hit and being able to take them out whenever we wanted was such a treat. This is a must stay motel for anyone looking for something special in a very special part of the world.

The Commodore's Lodge provided excellent accommodation for a holiday in Russell. The location couldn't be better as it is on the beach front surrounded by hotels, cafes, restaurants and shops. The rooms were very clean and well equipped with a frontage to the pool and hot tub, Kayaks and bikes were available free of charge and Wi-Fi was available at a small charge. We would definitely recommend this hotel and stay again. :-)
We had a marvellous stay here, hosts were excellent nothing was too much trouble for them, room above expectations.
A wonderfull place run by very friendly and efficent staff. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The location could not be better and the free kayaks were great, being just accross from the shore. The swimming pool was clean and in an excellent location just outside all the rooms with sun loungers provided. The price may seem a little steep but in this case you DO get what you pay for.
We had a great stay at the Commodore's lodge in Russel New Zealand. Te location is just beautiful and te property is lovely too. We have bought the wrong adaptor in Europe, but the owner was so nice to give us the wright adaptor for free. Great service.

We had 2 nights at the Commodore Lodge in November 2010 and loved it. It represents very good value for money, and the location is perfect. The rooms are beautifully appointed with a geat bathroom and fully equiped kitchen. Highly recommended

Building work going but did not affect us and would not nomally be being done
noisy people in next unit kept us awake, need better sound proofing.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Commodore's Lodge in Russell. The accommodation is first class.Good restaurants are literally a minutes walk away. They have a nice pool straight out from the unit. Hosts are very pleasant. Would definitely stay again.
