Overview

Te Urewera Treks offers a range of unique 1-day to 4-day wilderness walks in the remote indigenous forests of Te Urewera, Whirinaki and around the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk. The region is home to some of New Zealand's most magnificent rainforest, flourishing populations of many rare native birds, the beautiful Lake Waikaremoana, and many crystal clear rivers, lakes and waterfalls.

Our local Maori guides bring the region alive with their knowledge of the plants and wildlife, the fascinating histories of this remote place, as well as traditional uses for native plants.

Our one-day treks operate year round on demand, while our overnight treks operate between October and May.

All treks include return shuttle from Rotorua, meals and snacks, accommodation (for overnight treks) and an optional hot pool dip at the end.

Prices range from NZ$195/person for 1-day treks to NZ$1,295/person for 4-day treks. Child rates and group discounts are also available.
