Hotel was average in my opinion. Good for the price I paid however. I did like the fact that there was parking spaces available and they were fairly close to the buildings which was really good.
The particular room I stayed in was nice (3rd floor room facing the main road) but did have a few annoying things like the fridge - which every five minutes would make a sound that was like it was going to blow up which became very annoying at early hours of the morning. There is also a sign in the bath saying to use the bathmat or you will slip, so I used the bathmat and ended up slipping quite badly and gaining a nice sized black bruise on my leg (not too sure if it was just me being clumsy, but just be careful is my advice).
If you are thinking of having breakfast at the hotel restaurant, I personally wouldnt reccommend it as you are paying a fair bit for a full breakfast but do not get your moneys worth by any means (not to mention the toaster doesnt work properly).
But, it is a nice little place in a handy location and is good if your basically only staying the night and are hardly at the hotel. Just beware if you have loud neighbours as you can hear quite a bit in the rooms next door.
Not too sure if I would stay in the hotel again, probably only as a last resort.
The Kingsgate Hotel in Parnell is in a handy location close to Newmarket, the Museum and central Auckland. The rates were very reasonable, especially considering there was free parking on site though a little distance from the actual room/s. I was offered help with luggage on check-in. The unit was very clean and tidy. The drawbacks were that the bathroom fittings were very dated, the TV was old and the room was not very sound-proof and the stairs to the second floor level were outside stairs. Compared with motel rates in the Newmarket/Parnell area, I would choose to stay at the Kingsgate again.
Very good location for getting to the Auckland CBD, Newmarket, Vector Arena, Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World & Mission Bay.
Rooms tidy, clean and comfortable. Has a great swimming pool, plenty of off street parking & is directly opposite the Parnell Rose Gardens with a bus stop right outside the front gate. We were able to take a short walk (10 mins)towards town, where there was a fruit & veg shop, Hells Pizza, Roast shop, liquor store, MacDonalds and Mobil service station based on Quay Street.
Will use this property again, without hesitation.
