Rugby World Cup 2011 Location: New Plymouth
Sitting beneath the snow-capped cone of Mount Taranaki, New Plymouth is Taranaki's largest centre and known for its beautiful parks, gardens and surf beaches. Drive to Stratford (45min) and take a stroll in beautiful Te Popo Gardens, admire the town's Glockenspiel clock and visit the Pioneer Village. From here, you can explore New Zealand's oldest national park and enjoy the walking, cycling and climbing in and around Mount Taranaki
- Opunake
Drive south along Taranaki' scenic Surf Highway 45 (1hr) and catch the surf at Opunake. The town's crescent-shaped sandy beach is a favourite with surfers, swimmers, anglers and holiday makers. Plus, you can get adventurous with paintball, clay shooting, surfcasting and trout fishing at Actionaki
- Wanganui
Drive down to historic Wanganui (2hr 20min) and enjoy the cafés, galleries, art studios, and riverboat cruises or take a jetboat up the dramatic, bush-clad gorges of Whanganui River
