Overview
New Plymouth is renowned for its unique and innovative attractions that make the most of the city's stunning coastal landscape. The 10km Coastal Walkway stretches almost the length of the city, bringing visitors up close to the Tasman Sea and features the 45m-high kinetic artwork 'Wind Wand' and the stunning 83m long Te Rewa Rewa Bridge. Alongside the Coastal Walkway in the city's centre is Puke Ariki, a world-class fully integrated museum, library and visitor information centre. Nearby are the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery (Australasia's leading contemporary art museum) and the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre which features wave pool, water slides, sauna, spa, gymnasium and indoor and outdoor pools. Be sure to take time to see Pukekura Park; at 52ha it is widely considered the finest inner-city park in New Zealand. And every year from mid-December to early February it is home to the spectacular TSB Bank Festival of Lights, which turns the park into a glorious illuminated wonderland.
