New Plymouth

  • WOMAD NZ happens every March and is a celebration of all things world music. There's always a phenomenal selection of artists from a variety of genres.
  • Every year from mid-December to mid-February, The Festival of Lights transforms Pukekura Park into an illuminated magic wonderland. Absolutely stunning, and free!
  • The Govett- Brewster Gallery houses the largest collection of Len Lye works in the world. With a dedicated Len Lye Centre in the works, you should take time out to explore his varied works now. Well known for his kinetic pieces (like the Wind Wand on the Coastal Walkway) , he was also a prolific filmmaker as well as creating more traditional pieces.
  • The Coastal Walkway follows the Tasman Sea and features some amazing artworks including the kinetic Wind Wand as well as the stunning Te Rewa Rewa bridge that looks a little like a ribcage.
