    "McLean Park Motel Review"

Uncomfortable strong smell of paint due to painting previous day of arrival.

Numerous doors would not close properly, including front door.

Two light fittings would not function.

    Unit needs completely modernising.

"Good, clean, basic motel in a convenient location"

McLean Park Garden Motel is a clean but basic motel in a convenient location in Napier.

It's about a 20-30 minute walk or a 5 minute drive to the city centre. The motel itself is quite basic, but is clean and the owners/operators are very friendly. What was very handy was the cooking facilities in the unit, which did mean we could save on meal costs while holidaying in Napier by cooking some meals ourselves.

On our last day in Napier, we did loose hot water in our unit. Not sure why, but the shower ran cold in the late morning, and we couldn't get any hot water out of any of the taps. As we were checking out, we didn't bother complaining about it as it didn't really affect us anymore, but it was an annoyance.

The other slight annoyance was that the TV was positioned above the bed, so we couldn't watch TV from bed. Instead we had to watch from a small 2 seater couch opposite the bed. The couch wasn't in the most comfortable location to watch TV and also wasn't a very comfortable couch either. Still, not a big deal.

Mclean Park Garden Motel was one of the cheapest motels in Napier during the weekend we stayed there, but I do feel it was a little expensive for what it was, as it was a very basic room.

All in all, a good place to stay if you're going to be spending a lot of time out and about, and just using it as a place to sleep and shower, which is what we did. We found it convenient and a good place to stay for this purpose.

    "Comfortable without any luxury"

Basic facilities that were comfortable but not luxurious. Rates were expensive due to our staying over long holiday weekend. Very nice owners.

    "Adequate"

The unit was adequate for our needs and very cheap. It is not the most up to date place to stay. If you want a cheap place to stay and don't mind not having all the mod cons, then this place is fine and centrally located to Napier city. Rating 3

    "Homely & friendly"

Owners were very friendly & helpful, to the extent of bringing in my washing off the line in case it rained (well & truly above the call of duty)!! Rooms, while showing their age a bit, were clean & comfortable.

    "Disappointed"

We chose McLean Park Motel as it had a pool for our child and broadband/wifi from every unit and appeared to tick all our boxes.

We arrived and asked for the broadband access and were told it was unaccessible (as they were waiting for a part from overseas) except from unit 1 so they would put us in unit 1. The signal from Unit 1 was only apparent from outside and so weak it would disconnect every 5 seconds. Therefore useless.

    Annoying.

The beds were comfortable, TV reception was not good. The unit was not very clean, there were items missing from the full kitchen and there were damp patches on the bedroom ceiling.

As we were only in Napier for 1 day and 2 nights we were very disappointed our stay was not more pleasantly memorable.

    "Oldie, but Goody!"

The property has been built a while, but is scrupulously clean and tidy, had everything in it we wanted, especially a comfortable bed! We needed plenty of parking space which is why we chose to stay here, as we were towing a trailer. The driveway is a bit tight, but once in there is plenty of room. A nice quiet place to stay, but very, very close to the city and beach.

Enjoyed a very quiet 5 day stay. Within easy reach of city centre and very comfortable. Will be our base for future visits to Napier.

    "Not impressed"

The room smelt and hadn't been cleaned before we got there, as the dead bugs truly displayed that. The pictures online did not justify the way the motel really looked either. However, the owners were very friendly, and informative.
