- With the region growing over 8- percent of New Zealand's Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes; relaxing with a beautiful glass of red is a popular pastime.

- A lot of the Gannet Colony Tours leave from Napier. Usually a half day trip, you'll be taken within meters of the birds - all 25,000 of them! You'll also get to experience the remoteness of the area, named after the kidnapping attempt of one of Captain Cook's crew back in 1769.
