Mosgiel is situated just 12km south-west of Dunedin. Once known for its woollen mill, it is now popular with those seeking the quieter pace of country town life while still being close to the attractions of the city.

The scenic Taieri River valley is on Mosgiel's doorstep - the Taieri Gorge Railway, which departs from Dunedin, is a popular attraction, as is jetboating on the Taieri River. Surfing, swimming, diving and hang-gliding can be enjoyed on the Otago coastline. Walking tracks and lookout points are other options for exploring the surrounding countryside.

In Mosgiel itself, you can have fun on the local golf-course, go-karting track, enjoy a day at the races at the Wingatui Racecourse or check out the local velodrome and equestrian centre.
