This charming fishing village on the North Otago
coastline is world-famous for the fascinating Moeraki Boulders that sit on the beach. These huge rounded rock formations have been the subject of scientific theory and Maori folklore and are now a popular visitor attraction. Yellow-eyed penguins are another feature of the Moeraki coast, an area which also offers some lovely scenic walks. Keri Hulme lived in Moeraki in the 1980s while she wrote her Booker prize winning novel 'The Bone People'.
