We were deseparate to find somewhere to stay overnight after getting off the ferry in Picton before making a start on our travels through the north island. The Hutt City is fine if you are desperate, otherwise probably best avoided. It is situated right beside the highway so is quite noisy, it was also pretty cold when we were there and could just generally do with a bit of updating and a good clean! Quite expensive compared to the quality of other properties we stayed at, however, the people who run it are delightful, very welcoming and chatty.
On Arrival we were warmly welcomed. Paper work done in seconds and showen straight to our room. Such a warm and comfortable feeling, also noticed how nicely clean and hygenic everything was, so to our amazement. Our Kids settled in straight away and were happy to see that there was a DVD player installed for them....much to our relief! Out everyday to visit mum in hosp and upon our return was soo relaxing being that no house work was involved, fresh smell of linen...aaaaahhhh!!!! Would have love to stay another night and would most def reccomend staying here again...Thanks Heaps.
On arrival we had a very warm reception. We had a bit of fishing to do and were able to leave one vehicle and some gear there before our check in time. The unit was nice and warm with the heater on to beat back the Wellington chill, and the refrigerator and freezer already turned on all ready for our beers Apart from a few blown light bulbs and a bit of peeling wallpaper I would have found it very comfortable and handy to city shops if I was there for a few days instead of just one.
When I arrived at the Hutt City Motel I was told that no booking had been confirmed,as it was getting late it was fortunate that a 2 bedroom unit was available. The unit was clean spacious, it also had ample facilities and utensils to cook a meal.
In fact it was one of the more pleasant experiences I had with th 8 Motels I used over the past 2 and a half weeks.
A nice, clean unit, recently re-decorated. The bed was very comfortable.

A great place to stay, Easy to find, Great access to the motorway, close to lower hutt, probably not brilliant if you are travelling with out a car, but overall a great place to stay
Very good access to motorway
The property is easily access from the motorway and you really require a car to go there. Since the property in just next to the motorway the noise could be pretty disturbing those who really need a quiet environment.
Great Hosts, clean room, comfy bed & a couch to watch TV on. Best place we have stayed at in NZ so far!!
With being so close to the motorway I thought we were in for a noisy stay but I was proved very wrong. Our stay was very relaxing and the host were very friendly. The rooms were very clean and tidy. When I have to stay in Wellington again it will be there
