- Tubing your thing? Tekapo has a 150m long tube park made with natural and manmade snow. In summer you can still tube - just without the snow. Tubing is huge overseas and Tekapo is one of the first places in New Zealand to get it up and running.
- Make the walk up to the Mt John's Observatory. Not only is their an amazing view (even with the natural eye), but there's a good café and of course you can make arrangements for a star viewing. Truly stunning.
- If you head into the Mackenzie Country, make sure you stop at Lake Tekapo and see the bronze Sheep Dog Statue, forever watching over the lake. It's dedicated to all of the back country working dogs that make such a big difference to the high country farmers when it comes to finding and moving stock in difficult terrain.
