The Lord of the Rings Location: Kapiti Coast

This popular stretch of coastline north of Wellington is known for its beachside communities and sweeping stretches of sand. Countryside near Otaki, an hour's drive north of the capital, became the East Road from Hobbiton, and the last homely house of the Elves, Rivendell. Waitarere Forest, south of Foxton, was also used for filming scenes in Osgiliath Wood and Trollshaw Forest.
