Invercargill - Don't Miss It! Image courtesy of Venture Southland

"The interesting thing about Invercargill is that people only ever come for a day – and always end up staying for longer. It's one of those places where you can truly relax, and these are just a few of the many things that make it special" - Philip ToddInvercargill Top 10 Holiday Park owner

Which Restaurant Shall I Choose? – People are always amazed how many restaurants and café s we have, and there's a huge variety of cuisines as well. Our seafood comes fresh from the Southern Ocean and we have the best lamb and beef in the country raised on our doorstep. And our Foveaux Strait oysters are renowned (season starts March 1st each year).

You Can Park Your Campervan in the Main Street – Welcome to Invercargill! We have wide, tree-lined streets, an amazing collection of heritage buildings, shops that will cater for everyone including Hayes Hardware where the world's fastest Indian sits among the best hardware collection you will see anywhere. Parking is a breeze and you can drive right up and park your campervan in the main street!

You Can Play Golf in the Middle of the City
– When J T Thomson laid out the town of Invercargill, he set aside 80 hectares of reserve on the edge of the city centre which has become Queen's Park. It has to be one of the best things about living in Invercargill – it has an 18 hole golf course right in the middle! Spend a day wandering around the well laid out park that includes the Jessie Calder Rose Garden with over 900 climbing and shrub roses.

It's a Great Place to be Sporty
– Our sports facilities are the envy of many bigger centres. Stadium Southland has the only indoor cycling velodrome in the country, as well as world class netball facilities, indoor tennis, squash courts and a climbing wall. Rugby Park (where the Ranfurly Shield is currently at home) is also hosting two Rugby World Cup games in 2011.

Anderson Park Art Gallery – This amazing Georgian mansion was gifted to the city by the Anderson family back in 1951 and is now home to an extensive collection of NZ art. The home is open to the public for free. It's a wonderful spot to picnic as well, with gardens, walks, a duck pond and kids' play area. The gallery is located on McIvor Road.

We'd love to hear about why you love Invercargill. Tell us all about it now!
