Nestled in the Hutt Valley north of Wellington are the cities of Upper and Lower Hutt, and to the east, the towns of Petone and Wainuiomata. At the head of Wellington Harbour, Lower Hutt is a gateway to the great outdoors, with walking trails, parks and scenic reserves to explore. The Hutt River meanders its way through the centre of Lower Hutt, providing opportunities for fishing, canoeing and jetboating.

Upper Hutt lies at the foot of the mountainous Rimutaka Forest Park, a rugged wilderness area with superb hiking, hunting, picnicking and river swimming. Beyond Upper Hutt, you’ll find many tranquil bush and riverside retreats to explore, including the beautiful Akatarawa Forest, Kaitoke Regional Park and the Karapoti Valley.
