Hastings District Travel Guide

Superb wine and food, prosperous vineyards and art deco treasures are the hallmarks of the sunny Hastings district, one of the country’s premium wine-producing areas. The Sunday morning Farmers Market at Hastings is the perfect way to sample some of the locally grown produce and specialist foods, or take a walk and discover some of Hastings’ heritage deco buildings. Havelock North has a traditional village charm, with boutique shops, great cafés and lovely gardens, or explore the Te Awanga area with its vineyards, restaurants and olive groves.

During summer, you can enjoy the waves and water at Splash Planet, Hastings number one visitor destination, or book a gannet safari to visit the world’s largest mainland gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers, another favourite attraction of the Hastings district. For a spot of adventure, there is paragliding off Te Mata Peak, or head out to the Waimarama and Ocean Beach to enjoy the fishing, swimming and scenic walks.
