I cannot really comment on the property itself but I found the owner's attitude disappointing. I was brought under the impression (not by the owner I must stress) that the motel was close to Braemar Hospital, and I booked on that basis. My husband had been brought through from Auckland Hospital on Wed 10/09/14 afternoon to undergo a complex and difficult cardiac procedure only done at Braemar. The operation was the culmination of a very difficult period for us both and I was very stressed. The operation itself was on Wed evening at 6pm and I knew that he would probably be in theatre for a long time, and then in critical care. I needed to be very close. When I arrived at the motel at about 3 there was a sign to say that the office was unmanned and there was a MOB number to phone. I arrived within an hour of the time I had indicated. I was rather thrown by this but the owner arrived soon afterwards. He showed me my room up a number of stairs and made no attempt to help me with the luggage even though it was apparent that it was quite heavy. I expressed my concern about the distance to the hospital to the owner who noted that it was only 10 minutes. I had found the drive from the hospital to be more in the line of 15 minutes but that might have been because I don't know Hamilton well. I explained why I was concerned but he made it clear that it wasn't his problem. After discussing the matter with family I took the bags back to the car and returned the key. At no stage did I ask for a refund. The owner was rude and unpleasant, assured me I wouldn't get a refund and kept repeating that it wasn't his fault the motel wasn't next to the hospital. I then said that I hadn't asked for my money back and that a little sympathy would be rather nice. I think he replied with something along the lines of "whatever". I cannot complain about the amenities as I didn't use them but the owner's attitude towards his guests is unfortunate.
