Grey District Travel Guide

Welcome to the Grey District

Greymouth is the Grey District’s largest centre, and a great base for the adventure, history and natural attractions that draw visitors to the rugged West Coast of the South Island. A diverse range of activities in the Grey District includes dolphin watching, eco-rafting, cave rafting, sea kayaking, horse treks, 4WD safaris and scenic flights.

For a taste of the West Coast’s goldrush days, you can visit Shantytown to pan for gold or ride the Wells Fargo horse-drawn coach. Lake Brunner has to be one of the Grey District’s most lovely fishing spots, with pristine lakes and native forest backed by the towering Southern Alps. There are scenic walks to enjoy in the Rapahoe Scenic Reserve, north of Greymouth, or enjoy a summer swim at Rapahoe’s beach.
