Greta Valley Travel Guide

Just north of Canterbury's Waipara Valley and mid-way between Amberley and Cheviot is the small settlement of Greta Valley. Greta Valley is a great family camping area and an ideal spot in which to enjoy the region's quiet country atmosphere. There are several marine charters based at Greta Valley for those who want to try sea fishing or watch for marine wildlife.

The Great Valley Walkway offers pretty views of the surrounding countryside, and also passes the remains of an old boundary rider's cottage from the original Stonyhurst Station. Out on the coast, Motunau Beach is a popular camping spot with surfcasting and crayfishing. The beach is backed by towering sea cliffs that are prized by fossil hunters, or you can climb up to the Motunau Beach Clifftop Coastal Reserve for sweeping views up the coast.
