  • Festival of Arts and Plants
    A November festival celebrating Geraldine's garden heritage and its thriving craft scene.
  • The Vintage Car and Machinery Museum
    A fascinating collection of more than 30 vintage vehicles dating back to 1905, as well as vintage tractors. Open daily October to Easter.
  • Peel Forest Park
    19km north of Geraldine, this beautiful indigenous podocarp (conifer) contains some fine examples of totara, kahikatea and matai. There is a camping ground, bushwalks and several scenic waterfalls. Birdlife in the forest includes bellbirds, fantails, grey warblers and kereru (the NZ pigeon), and native falcons also nest on the mountain.
  • Walks
    Walks within Peel Forest include the Big Tree Walk, which takes in a 1000-year-old totara, as well as walks to Emily Falls (1.5hrs), Rata Falls (2hrs) and Ackland Falls (20mins). The Peel Forest Store has details of the tracks.
  • Mount Somers
    The Subalpine Walkway (10hrs) leads up the nothern face of Mount Somers through regenerating beech forest.
  • Skiing
    Mount Dobson has New Zealand's largest intermediate ski area. The club-run Fox Peak is located in the Two Thumb Range, with four rope tows (the learner's tow is free). Tekapo Basin caters largely for advanced skiers, and has a rope tow linking it to Mount Lyford.
  • Talbot Forest Scenic Reserve
    To view some majestic specimens of native trees visit the Talbot Forest Scenic Reserve, just 1km from Geraldine's town centre.
  • Rivers and streams
    The rivers and streams around Geraldine have endowed the area with many beauty spots and there are superb views of the mountains from the rolling hill country of the Geraldine Downs.
