Tucked away on the eastern coast of Coromandel, peaceful Flaxmill Bay is a delightful holiday spot, with stunning views over the Mercury Islands, and a family camping ground nestled at its eastern end. You can while away your time with a swim, stroll or picnic, enjoy the fishing off the rocks or pay a visit to nearby Front Beach – one of the Coromandel’s loveliest and a favourite for swimming.
A short walk from Flaxmill Bay is Ferry Landing – the oldest stone wharf in Australasia. You can catch the ferry across to bustling Whitianga to visit the shops, cafés, art outlets and waterside eateries, or climb up to Shakespeare’s Lookout for spectacular views over Mercury Bay. There are scooters for hire next to the store if you’d like to explore under your own steam. It’s just short ride to Cooks Beach and further on to Hahei Beach, famous Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach.
