Ski & Board Fox Peak

Ski & Board Update
Typical Season: Mid July – Mid October

A non-profit club run ski field set on the Two Thumb Range near Fairlie, Fox Peak offers 500ha of glorious snow terrain and 580m vertical. With a lovely little beginner's area and easy runs, you can then choose to amp it up a little on The Shirt Front or settle into the North Basin or Happy Valley. The Southern Basin is completely hidden away and offers terrain for all skill levels.

Ski tourers and hikers adore Fox Peak for its access to the backcountry. From the top of the Apex you can head north or south into areas not patrolled by Fox Peak. Similarly you could try the Peak Ascent – allow 4 hours to climb; or if you're super fit and adventurous, The Tekapo Traverse. The Traverse is a full day in perfect conditions so you must carry full overnight and above snowline gear.

Limited self-catering accommodation is available half way up the access road at Fox Lodge on Friday and Saturday nights; see their website for more information. If you prefer off mountain, Fairlie or Tekapo are the closest villages.

Open only on weekends, Fox Peak Ski Field is a 40min drive from Tekapo, 1hr from Geraldine, 1hr45mins from Methven and just under 3hrs from Christchurch
The area does not offer equipment rentals so arrange them before you arrive.
Operated by volunteers from the Fox Peak Ski Club, Fox Peak offers day passes to the general public. Season Passes are only available to club members.  Family, Couple, Adult and Student rates available.
