Dunedin

  • Dunedin is considered to be one of the "Big Four" in New Zealand - Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. All are considered key centres of culture, business and community.
  • Larnach Castle is New Zealand's only castle. It has the most beautiful gardens full of New Zealand and other temperate Southern Hemisphere plants. It is now listed as a garden of significance. With seasonal displays, there's never a bad time to visit.
  • The Dunedin Art Gallery is in the Octagon (city centre) and features special collections of Frances Hodgkins, Ralph Hotere, Grahame Sydney, and Jeffrey Harris, all had connections to the city.
  • The name Dunedin is derived from Dun Eideann, Scottish Gaelic for Edinburgh.
