Culverden Travel Guide

Culverden lies in the middle of Canterbury's Amuri basin and is a great place to experience traditional rural New Zealand. Visit a farmstay, discover the area's country gardens, enjoy a picnic at the Rutherford Reserve or play a relaxing round of golf on Culverden's scenic nine-hole golf course.

South of Culverden, the Hurunui River has superb trout and salmon fishing, and white-baiting in season. Balmoral Forest, along the banks of the Hunui River, is popular for its scenic walks, picnic spots and sheltered camping areas, or head to the Hurunui Hotel for a relaxing drink. This historic North Canterbury landmark was built back in 1868 as a resting place for weary drovers, and these days, it's still a good place to meet the locals.
