Earthquake in Christchurch Updates
Christchurch experienced a severe earthquake on February 22, 2011.

FerryThe
Christchurch Wildlife Cruise is cancelled due to damage in Lyttelton until further notice. The
Canterbury Cat boat in Lyttelton is operating for groups only and charters.
Ferry services to Diamond Harbourand Quail Island Ferries are in operation.
RailChristchurch/Kaikoura/Blenheim/Picton train services are planned to start 15 August 2011.
Christchurch/Arthurs Pass/Greymouth and Auckland/Hamilton/National Park/Palmerston Nth/
Wellington trains are currently running. See

BusesWhile most Metro services have now recommenced. Full service and route details are available at

Christchurch International AirportThe airport is operating normally.
Other Information Beaches and waterwaysDue to sewage contamination combined with heavy rain, the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management urges travellers to avoid all rivers, waterways, puddles or other surfacewater, and beaches between the Waimakariri River and Lyttelton Harbour. LytteltonThe damage to the town of Lyttelton was extensive. Many buildings suffered structural damage. Some businesses have reopened in Lyttelton however the port has suffered significant damage. For more info see the
