Bay of Plenty

  • In 2011 an oil spill off the coast of Tauranga caused problems, but now the water is clean and clear and everything is back to normal. Swim with the dolphins! Go boating! Surfing! Water Skiing! Diving! Fishing! Swimming. Get out there and enjoy it.
  • You can visit White Island - the active volcano by boat or by plane or helicopter. You can only visit via an authorised tour operator.
  • Dolphins are common in these waters - imagine swimming with them, looking them straight in the eye? Well you can. There are plenty of dolphin tours available.
  • Visiting Mt Maunganui and feeling fit? You should climb the Mount. It's a 232m climb and will take about 2 hours but the view is totally worth it.
