Parnell Village, Auckland
Charming colonial-style shops and elegant cafés and restaurants have made Parnell Village one of Auckland's most popular attractions. Relax over brunch at one of the many cafes on the Parnell Road, then explore some of the designer shops and art galleries.
- Dove-Myer Robinson Park & Parnell Rose Gardens
Take a stroll around Parnell's beautiful rose gardens, where some 5000 rose bushes grow in formal beds (October to April is the best time to view the stunning blooms). Several varieties have been bred locally by New Zealand's internationally renowned rose-breeders.
- Judges Bay
Enjoy the views over historic Judges Bay, just below the Rose Gardens, where Auckland's wealthy early settlers first put down roots.
- Parnell Baths
Enjoy a cooling swim at the Parnell Saltwater Baths. This outdoor swimming pool is extremely popular with Aucklanders during the summer (it is closed during winter).
- St Stephen's Chapel
Visit one of Auckland's first churches, St Stephen's Chapel, with its old cemetery and gardens. Access to the park is off Gladstone Road and Judges Bay Road.
- Auckland Cathedral of the Holy Trinity
Check out the unique stained glass window at Auckland Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, which features a Polynesian Christ and striking Pacific motifs. The cathedral hosts regular concerts and recitals throughout the year. Next door, old St Mary's Church is considered one of the world's most impressive wooden churches.
Historic Homes
- Ewelme Cottage (14 Ayr Street)
Explore the gardens and rooms of Ewelme Cottage. Built between 1863 and 1864, this colonial cottage is surrounded by a lovely rambling old English garden and contains original furniture and chattels.
- Kinder House (2 Ayr Street)
Wander through historic Kinder House, which dates back to 1857. Built by its former owner, the Rev. John Kinder, this handsome stone house contains original period chattels. You can wander through the rooms and admire the paintings done by the Reverend, which offer a fascinating insight of early Auckland.
