- In Maori, Akaroa translates as 'Long Harbour', an apt name for such a beautiful place, tucked away in Banks Peninsula. Only 70km from Christchurch, it's a must visit for so many reasons.
- Also on your Must Visit list is Akaroa. Originally settled by the French, it's a gorgeous town with equally beautiful scenery as you get there. Fish n Chips on the pier is a kiwi tradition! It's also the best place to see Hector's Dolphins - the smallest dolphins in the world. Book a trip out - you might even get to swim with them.
- Akaroa hosts a Farmers Market every Saturday, 9.30-1pm, next to the Akaroa 4 Square Supermarket in a little park known as Fletchers Hub. Akaroa has a great
micro climate so expect to see locally grown herbs, honey, fruit, vegetables, nuts, olives, olive oil and gorgeous flowers; plus
divine pickles and preserves, sauces and jams; cheese, breads and pastries too.
